Lt Gen Francis Ogolla named Vice-Chief of Defence Forces

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday made several changes in the Ministry of Defence, including the promotion of Major General Francis Ogolla to the rank of Lieutenant General and subsequently appointing him the Vice-Chief of Defence Forces.

Lt Gen Ogolla succeeds Lt Gen Franklin Mghalu whose term has ended after 40 years of service.


Lt Gen Ogolla joined the Kenya Air Force in 1984 and is trained as a fighter pilot 

Prior to his promotion as the Vice-Chair of Defence Forces, he served as Kenya Air Force Commander, he will deputies Chief of Defence Force Robert Kibochi.


Major Albert Kendagor of the Kenya Army has been promoted to Lieutenant General rank and appointed Forces Commander designate of the Africa Union Mission to Somalia ( Amison).


Major General Jonah Mwangi was also promoted to Lieutenant General and appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the National Defence University.


The Head of State Major General William Shume the Kenya Army's deputy commander.

Nairobi Metropolitan Service boss Major General Mohamed Badi was also promoted to Lieutenant General.However he will continue to serve  as the Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) Director-General.

Brigadier John Omenda was also promoted to the rank of Major General and named Air Force Commander where he will be deputised by Brigadier Peter Githinji.

Other promotions include that of Brigadier Alphaxed Kiungu who was promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces personnel and Logistics.


The new KDF Spokesperson is Colonel Esther Wanjiku, she will be replacing Colonel Zipporah Kioko who is going to the Royal College of Defense in the UK for further studies.
