Former Imenti Central Member of Parliament Gideon Mwiti is dead.
The 57-year-old old legislator is said to have succumbed to diabetes on sunday.
His son Mutethia Irea confirmed the news, stating that the former MP died at Kenyatta Teaching and Referral Hospital at 4 am after developing complications hours after being rushed to the health facility.
Mwiti who was elected on an Alliance Party of Kenya ticket from 2013 to 2017 retired from active politics in 2017 to venture into business.
In 2015, he faced allegations of raping a woman in Nairobi. He was charged alongside a doctor accused by police of aiding and abetting the crime by conducting an involuntary HIV test on the complainant.
Mwiti had pleaded not guilty to the charges of rape, intimidation and assault in the case yet to be concluded.
