Activists protest after teacher allegedly beat 8-year-old to death for failing test

Seven activists on Tuesday protested in Nairobi over the alleged killing of an 8-year-old who was reportedly beaten to death by one of her teachers on May 19, 2021.

The activists who launched the protests on Tuesday, July 27 were, however, arrested and spent their night at the Soweto Police Station.

It is believed that Jenniffer Mitchelle died in the  school premises and her body dumped at the Mama Lucy Hospital.

Allegedly, when Mitchelle answered a question wrong in class, a teacher beat her to death.

Her mother, Hilda Achieng, waited for her to leave school on the fateful day but she never showed up.

She stated, “I waited for her to come back at 5 pm together with the other Grade 2 pupils but she did not. At around 5.30 pm, I asked her schoolmates but no one had seen her."

Before filing a missing person's report at the Kayole Police Station, Achieng sought information from the school but she was unsuccessful.

Sadly, a police officer contacted her on the same day at around 9pm to inform her that they had found her daughter.

"He told me that there was a child who fit my daughter's description at the Mama Lucy Hospital but warned me against going alone," Achieng added.

She found her daughter dead when she reached the hospital.

Achieng was among the protesters who  went to the school to demand justice.

She said, "When I took her to school that morning, she was in good health and jovial."
