Why KFCB cancelled Sh 200K partnership with singer Bahati

The Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) has canceled a Sh200,000 partnership with gospel singer Kevin Bahati popularly known as Bahati.

According to KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua, the singer posted videos that contravened their ‘clean content and partnership’ policy, thereby necessitating the move.

The vocal CEO tweeted, “This week @InfoKfcb cancelled over 200k cash and other kind support to musician @BahatiKenya following the posting of videos which contravened our clean content and partnership policy. As a result, our team decided to cancel the support and disassociate completely with the planned event.”

Bahati approached the Board for support and had committed to being a clean content ambassador, l KFCB boss noted.

“My heart breaks at seeing our artists going to extremes to promote explicit content even at the expense of tainting their brand and denting their careers,” Mutua added.

According to him, dirty content is less marketable and sustainable when compared to clean, family-suitable content.

Mutua explained, “We are not in any way asking artists to create gospel or only one genre of content...there’s need for a jab of moderation and modesty.”
