Health authorities in South Korea confirmed on Sunday that frim July 1, some travelers who have received their Covid-19 vaccine shots overseas will be exempted from the country’s mandatory two-week quarantine.
Only people fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in South Korea were afforded the the quarantine exemption as of May 5.
According to an official with the Central Disaster Management Headquarters, Son Young-Rae, the new policy will apply only to certain people such as citizens and foreign residents, as well as those coming to visit family, or for the purpose of business, academics or public interest.
The exempted travelers must have gotten one of the vaccines approved by the World Health Organization.
Furthermore, they will be required to fill out an application and to be tested before and after arriving in South Korea.
However, the quarantine waiver will not apply to
some travelers from countries with major outbreaks or variants.
As of Sunday, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) stated that the total infections in South Korea 148,273 as 399 new cases were recorded on the same day.
The agency also said that the death toll in the country stands at 1,988 while over 11.8 million people have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
