Netanyahu ousted as Israel's Prime Minister

Benjamin Netanyahu has been ousted as Israel's Prime Minister after its parliament voted in a new coalition government.

Right-wing nationalist Naftali Bennet has been sworn in as Prime Minister.

Bennet will lead a coalition of 8 political parties which was approved with a lean majority of 60-59.

Mr Bennet will be Prime Minister until September 2023 as part of a power-sharing deal.

He will then had power over to Yair Lapid and the leader of Centrish Yesh Atid for a further two years.

In 2019, Netanyahu called for an election but failed to win enough support to form a new coalition government.

Two more elections were held each of which ended inconclusively.

Mr Netanyahu has served as Israel's Prime Minister since 1996.
