The government has set aside Sh 310.7 billion for the ongoing infrastructural projects.
Treasury Cabinet Secretary Ukur Yatani announced on Thursday when he tabled the highlights of the budget for the 2021/22 financial year.
"The Government has been scaling up the construction of modern highways as well as urban and rural roads in every part of the country. This will open up many areas to economic activities and spur growth,” he said.
Sh 182 billion of the allocation will go into supporting the construction of roads and bridges as well as their rehabilitation and maintenance.
An additional sh 94.7 billion will go towards facilitating the ongoing roads and bridges construction while Sh 36.1 billion has been set aside for rehabilitation of roads.
A further Sh 54 billion will go into roads maintenance.
In a bid to ease traffic in the Nairobi Central Business District, Yatani said Sh 1.3 billion will go towards facilitating the construction of the Railway Metro line.
The second phase of the SGR has received a major boost after the government pumped sh 272 billion to go towards its completion.
The ports have been allocated Sh 7.5 billion for the Mombasa Port Development project and an additional sh 7.5 billion for Lapsset.
The country's budget soared to Sh 3.6 trillion.
