CS Magoha announces ban on hiring of school buses for private events

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof George Magoha has announced a ban on the hiring of school buses for private events in a bid to protect learners from COVID-19.

Speaking during the release of Form one selection results at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development( KICD) Prof Magoha directed that anybody seeking services of the buses must get the authority from the ministry.

" For the avoidance of doubt, school buses are to carry children using COVID-19 protocols, action is to be taken against anybody using the buses for any other reason,” he said.

“We will not sit and allow people to misuse facilities of our children…We will give authorisation from Jogoo house, it does not matter if you are a government official.” he added.

The move comes days after the CS banned unauthorised meetings on school premises.

According to the Education CS, the decision was taken as such gatherings could expose learners to coronavirus.

" It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Education that various groups of people are targeting schools as venues for holding unauthorised meetings,” said the CS in a statement

“By holding the meetings at the school facilities, the groups are exposing learners to the dangers of COVID-19 as many of the attendees do not comply with the Ministry of Health guidelines on COVID-19.”
