Covid-19: Kenya records 589 new cases, positivity rate stands at 11.8%


Kenya has recorded 589 new Covid-19 cases from a sample of 4,995 people tested, pushing the cumulative cases 173,661 as the positivity rate stands at 11.8 per cent. 

The Ministry of Health has stated that from the new cases, 580 are Kenyans while 9 are foreigners and 343 are men while 246 are women. 

The oldest case is 101 years old while the youngest is a five-month-old infant. 

Total recoveries now stand at 118,933 as 312 patients have recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours.

From the new recoveries, 184 from the Home Based and Isolation Care program and 128 are from various health facilities across the country.

994 patients are currently admitted to various health facilities across the country, while 5,049 patients are under the Home Based Isolation and Care program.

From the 114 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 29 are on ventilatory support, 65 on supplemental oxygen and 20 patients under observation.

The Ministry of Health also stated, “Sadly, 19 people have been reported to succumb to the disease, all of them being late deaths reported after conducting Facility Record Audits on diverse dates in the month of April and May. This now pushes the cumulative fatalities to 3,345. Our sincere condolences to the families and friends of those who have lost their loved ones.”
