Cops discover 8 guns and 197 rounds of ammunition at police officer's home

Eight guns and 197 rounds of ammunition were discovered by police officers in Trans Nzoia on Tuesday night at the home of a police officer attached to the Judiciary.

The police report indicated that detectives were tipped off that an unidentified person had been spotted inside the home of the police officer who was absent at the time.

However, the unidentified suspect fled, leaving the door open.

The officers delved into the matter further after they went inside the house following the tip off and found that the house was leased to a police driver named Maxwell Tally Mutonyi, who lives in the Police Band quarters in the South B Nairobi Area.

In the living room, they discovered one UZI SMG rifle with magazine S/No. 09234, a Smith and Wesson revolver with registration S/No.38SPL, six Germany Walther pistols with magazines S/Nos BE5768, XB3026, BP4957, AW5339, ME8395, and HJ6205, and 197 rounds calibre 9 mm ammunition.

Other items found were a jungle pullover, one smoke trouser, one modified swagger cane, a colorless liquid in a five litre Jerry can and an Angola jungle shirt. 

A blue Peugeot of registration No. KAC 001W that was outside the house wa impounded. 

The police officer in question was arrested and he is to be arraigned at the Kitale Law Courts.
