Cameroonian Nson appointed Kenya Morans assistant coach

Cameroonian coach Abel ‘Alibaba’ Nson has been appointed by the Kenya Basketball Federation as the national men’s basketball team's assistant coach.

The team is set to participate in the country’s first Afrobasket Championships in 27 years, which will be held in August in Kigali, Rwanda.

Nson and current assistant coach Sadat Gaya will work together under Australian head coach Liz Mills to prepare the Morans ahead of the Championships.

The coaches will conduct player evaluation, plan for training, plan for games and review the performance of the team.

Nson first came to Kenya in 2003 on scholarship to study at United States International University (USIU).

As a player, the 43-year-old won the East Africa University Games cup with USIU in Nairobi in 2004, two league titles with Cooperative Bank in 2010 and 2011 together with the Zone V Championship in 2010.

Nson coached Masaku Sparks, won two league titles and Zone V trophy in 2015 as an assistant coach with USIU Flames and is currently head coach of Storms women basketball team.

He works for the Toronto Raptors in the NBA as a professional scout.
