MPs question Speaker Justin Muturi's whereabouts

Members of Parliament expressed their worries regarding National Assembly speaker Justin Muturi's whereabouts during a session in parliament on Wednesday, May 19.

The speaker was absent during a special session where the lawmakers were debating on whether to approve Martha Koome as Chief Justice.

Tiaty MP William Kamket posed, “I’m worried about our speaker’s whereabouts, Mr Speaker. We’ve been reading online that the Speaker is under some kind of spell somewhere. How safe is our he?”

Reportedly, Muturi undergoing an eight-day-cleansing process whereby he only eats a special diet and is only allowed to see a few elders who have undergone cleansing.

Muturi was enthroned as the Mt Kenya East (Meru, Embu and Mbeere communities) spokesman a few months ago.

In their shrine in Nchiru, Meru County, the Meru's Njuri Ncheke elders coronated him.

The Mt. Kenya region is keen to find President Uhuru's successor in the region ahead of the 2022 general elections, since the president's term is coming to an end.
