Coca-Cola company has discontinued a Coke-energy-drink hybrid, Coke Energy, in North America, slightly over a year after it was launched.
The drink was launched in January 2020, a few months before coronavirus began spreading across the region but the pandemic interfered with the company's business strategy.
According to a statement issued by Coke, the focus is on the drinks that are selling well, including its caffeinated sparkling water and traditional sodas.
The statement read, “An important component to this strategy is the consistent and constant evaluation of what’s performing and what’s not,” the company said
It added “As we scale our best innovations quickly and effectively, like AHA and Coca-Cola with Coffee, we need to be disciplined with those that don’t get the traction required for further investment.”
Coke Energy, Coke Energy Zero Sugar, Coke Energy Cherry and Coke Energy Cherry Zero Sugar were the varieties sold across North America.
Coke Energy made with guarana extracts and B-vitamins, has 114 mg of caffeine per 12-ounce serving while a 12-ounc can of regular Coke has about 34 mg of caffeine.
Although it has been discontinued in North America, the beverage will remain on sale in other parts of the world.
Coke Energy is the latest Coke product to be discontinued from its lineup of beverages as last year the beverage company announced it was discontinuing 200 brands, or about half of its portfolio to focus on its most profitable offerings.
