World 1500m champion Cheruiyot to compete in 800m in Ostrava

World 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot will join other global stars on May 19 in a Continental Tour Gold meeting dubbed the Ostrava Golden Spike. 

He will make his first track appearance this season contesting in 800m and is likely to challenge the meeting record of 1:43.24 that Wilfred Bungei set in 2003.

In February, Cheruiyot competed in mixed relay at the Kenya Cross Country Championships. 
 
Two-time world pole vault champion Sam Kendrick will join Cheruiyot in Ostrava. 
 
In 2019, Kendrick set the meeting record with 5.93m. 

2017 world javelin champion Johannes Vetter will also participate in the Continental Tour Gold
fresh from his world-leading 91.50m throw in Offenburg on Saturday.

After USATF Grand Prix (April 24), Ready Steady Tokyo (May 9) and USATF Golden Games (May 9), the Ostrava meeting will be the fourth leg of the Continental Tour Gold series.
