Report: 30 cases of blood clot event found after AstraZeneca vaccine use

UK regulator reported on Thursday that there were 30 cases of rare blood clot events after the use of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

Previously, only 5 cases were reported.

However, no such reports of clotting events following use of the vaccine made by BioNTech SE and Pfizer Inc., the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said.

According to health officials, the benefits of the vaccine in the prevention of COVID-19 far outweigh any possible risk of blood clots.

Inoculation is continuing in some countries while some are restricting use of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

The UK medicines regulator said on March 18 that there had been five cases of a rare brain blood clot among 11 million shots that were administered.

There were 22 reports of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, an extremely rare brain clotting ailment, as was reported on Thursday.

Also, there were 8 reports of other clotting events associated with low blood platelets out of a total of 18.1 million doses administered.
