The Ministry of Health has banned the importation and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines by private entities
The ban was announced on Friday by Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe after days of controversy following the importation of Russia's Sputnik V vaccine by a private company.
" The government is effective today closing the window of private sector importing, distributing and administering of the vaccine until such a time when there will be transparency and accountability in the process, " he said.
Deputy President William Ruto, his wife Rachel Ruto were among the first people to receive the jab in the country
Kenya itself acquired more than 1.1 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines which are being administered among Kenyans for free.
