Real Madrid has made a statement disclosing that one of its players, Sergio Ramos has tested positive for COVID-19.
This is an additional blow to the club given that it has experienced injury problems.
Since April 1, Ramos has been nursing a calf injury which forced him to miss his side's 3-1 win over Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final first leg and Saturday's 2-1 victory over rivals Barcelona in La Liga.
In February, the 35-year-old central defender underwent knee surgery which required him out of the second leg away to Liverpool on Wednesday. He is expected to resume playing at end of the month.
Being COVID-19 positive means that Ramos
will be kept away from Real's training ground until he produces a negative test. However, it is unlikely to prevent him from getting back to action.
Since he joined Real Madrid from Sevilla in 2005,
Ramos has played 670 games while scoring 101 goals for the team.
His current contract expires at the end of June, meaning that his future with the Spanish champions is uncertain.
