Police arrest a Kwale county government employee over ivory possession

A 53-year-old Kwale County government staffer, Joseph Mtoi Kuri, has been arrested by police officers for possessing 12 pieces of ivory with an estimated street value of Ksh.1 million.

Preliminary investigations indicate that a joint team of Kenya Wild Life (KWS) Officers and detectives from the DCI had been trailing the suspect. 

According to KWS Kwale boss Omar Mwaichande, Kuri had 12 pieces of ivory weighing 35 kilograms which were discovered at his home. He reportedly obtained the ivory from the Kuranze ranch. 

The suspect is set to be arraigned in court later today,  Meanwhile, further investigations are underway.
