A male convict who recently tested positive for COVID-19 died at a police cell in Kuria West, Migori County, on Monday.
According to a police report, the 32-year-old who was identified as Samwel Marwa tested positive for the disease and has been under the care of medical officers while in the police cell as he was
sentenced on April 1, 2021.
The convict was isolated in a police cell because he could not to be taken to serve his sentence at the Migori GK Prison, the Kuria West sub-county Police Commander Cleti Kimaiyo said.
Kimaiyo added that the late Marwa was stable in the police cell until Sunday at around 2.22pm when he collapsed and became unconscious with blood-stained foam coming from his mouth.
The police officers alerted the medical officers who handled the convict and left him to rest in the cell after his condition slightly stabilized.
Unfortunately, he was found dead on Monday morning at around 7am by the medical officer who had gone to do the regular checkup in the cell.
