Friends and family pay tribute to Rapper DMX

Friends and family of the late Earl Simmons popularly known as Rapper DMX gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, on Saturday to remember the rapper's life and legacy during emotional memorial service.

The 50-year-old's rapper's death shocked fans, fellow artists and entire music community.

The star's red coffin was carried on a monster truck across New York City as streets were closed and lanes restricted to facilitate ceremonial journey.

A throwback video of the rapper - real name Earl Simmons - and his daughter displayed onscreen to commence the ceremony then a choir  performed several songs which were followed by some heartfelt speeches by the rapper's children.

"Our father is a king, our father is an icon. I am so honoured to have a father like we have. This man deepened my ability to love...I cried so much tears of joy, so much," Xavier, 28, said emotionally.

"Every time, every lesson he ever taught me: Always say thank you. No matter where you go, a blessing is everywhere. Be kind to everyone," he added.

"First of all, thank you, thank you, thank you for the energy that everybody has brought here today," Rapper Eve also shared a heartwarming tribute to the star.

She added, "The celebration of how great we all know DMX was what he has left behind. I am seriously the luckiest, luckiest woman in the world to have been adopted by the Ruff Ryders, but to have known DMX the way that I knew him as a man, a father, a friend. I know that he will rest in power, rest in love but most of all he will rest in peace."

Producer Swizz Beats also paid tribute to the late rapper saying that X's death has taught him the importance of loyalty and keeping good people in his circle. Swizz also took aim at those who failed X when he was still alive.

On Sunday, there will be a "Homegoing Celebration" before the family pay their final respects to the star in a private service.
