A Nairobi Magistrate Court has detained former Kenya Sevens player Alex Olaba for seven days to allow police to complete investigations after he was arrested on Thursday over an allegation of attempted murder of a key witness in a rape case he is facing.
Olaba was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Benard Ochio.
In his ruling Magistrate Ochio said he found that the prosecution demonstrated that there were compelling reasons to detain the suspect to avert any interference with witnesses.
The suspect will now be held at Kilimani Police Station pending the mention of the case on April 30th.
Olaba who was charged alongside his compatriot Frank Wanyama had been released by the High Court after it quashed their 15-year sentence pending re-trial.
The two are alleged to have committed the rape offence on February 11, 2018, at an apartment in Kilimani, Nairobi.
