Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama is absent in the squad named ahead of the remaining 2021 Africa Nations Cup (ANC) qualification matches, at home to Togo and away to Egypt.
Head coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee named the squad on Saturday.
Other absentees are veteran midfielder Johanna Omollo based in Turkey, Eric Johanna and Ayub Timbe, based in Sweden and Japan respectively, alongside custodian Arnold Origi.
Wanyama has not played competitively since last November when the MLS league season ended and although his absence in the squad was not explained, it is believed to be linked to fitness concerns.
Michael Olunga could therefore be given the captain’s armbad.
The coronavirus menace which restricted travel from his former base in Japan, leading to Olunga's absence in the team. He last played for the Stars over a year ago.
Keeper Ian Otieno who is based at Zambia’s Zesco United alongside defender Joseph Okumu and Joash Onyango who are based in Sweden and Tanzania respectively are among those named in the squad.
Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Anthony Akumu and Duncan Ochieng who plies his trade at Lusaka Dynamos in Zambia were also named.
On March 25 in Nairobi, the Kenyan national team
will face Egypt then travel to Lome to face Togo in the final match of the competition.
For Stars stand a chance of securing qualification to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, they need a win in the two matches.
