Police: Seminarian committed suicide after murdering woman and son in Nairobi

A team of detectives investigating a murder case in which 3 individuals were found dead at a house in Government Quarters along Jogoo Road in Nairobi concluded that Kevin Koech killed himself after murdering the woman and son.

According to the report, Koech was a senior seminarian who was awaiting to graduate as a Catholic priest.

The report further states that the man suffocated Charity Cheboi and her eight year old son Allan Kipngetich before he committed suicide.

The detectives argued that since Koech had locked himself in a toilet, where a jiko was found,  there could not have been a fourth person in the house.

One of the officers said, "If there would have been another person in the house, there is no way Koech could have locked himself from the toilet.  It seems it is the deceased man who locked it to enhance his mission to die."

In a bid to understand Koech's character, the detectives have planned to visit St Thomas of Aquinas Seminary in Karen, Nairobi.

The motive of the murder is yet to be established by the investigators.

According to government pathologist Johansen Oduor, Charity Cheboi and her eight-year-old son died from suffocation. He noted that their noses and mouth had been covered.

On the other hand, Koech died from carbon monoxide that emanated from a jiko found next to him.

Preliminary results showed that Koech's body did not have any visible injuries even though his hands and legs had been tied with electric cables.

Cheboi had bruises on her face while her son had blood oozing from the mouth. Each was holding a rosary.

The detectives stated, “Both the woman and her 8-year old son had vomited on the bed. They lay side by side.”
