The by-election for Garissa Senatorial seat, Bonchari and Juja Parliamentary seat as well as Rurii Ward MCA seat in Nyandarua have been scheduled for May 18th, 2021.
In a gazette notice on Wednesday, Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission ( IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati said that political parties intending to field candidates in the by-elections should submit the names of the persons contesting in a party primary before March 8th.
Candidates intending to participate in the by-election as independent candidates are expected not to have been a member of any political parties for at least three months before the date of the by-election.
Independent candidates are also expected to submit their names and symbols before March 8th.
Garissa's by-election comes following the death of Senator Yusuf Haji on February 15 at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after a long illness.
The Bonchari parliamentary seat fell vacant following the demise of MP John Oroo Oyioka on February 15th, 2021 in Kisumu
In the same month of February Juja constituents lost their MP Francis Munyua Waititu ' Wakapee' who succumbed to brain cancer.
