Mathare United chairman to meet enraged fans over code of conduct

Mathare United chairman Bob Munro is set to meet enraged fans and establish the code of conduct following an incident in which three fans confronted him over the team's loss to Tusker last Saturday.

The three fans approached Munro and demanded an explanation for the poor performance of the team  in the season so far.

He strongly condemned the incident and decided to put the code of conduct in black and white in a meeting he has scheduled with fans.

Munro stated, "Of course, the fans have a right to demand an explanation when they feel the team isn't doing well, but the approach they took was entirely wrong. There are better channels that can be used to air such grievances."

Currently, Mathare United is at the tail end of the table on four points. Zoo Kericho is at the bottom with two points.

Mathare United players were caught up in a heated broadcast rights row with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) that kept them out for awhile, making them to start the new season late.

According to Coach Salim Ali, the squad had very little time to conduct their preseason training, justifying their slow start to the season and wanting performance.

Salim said, "You are aware that we began our preparations a little bit late given we were never sure about our fate in the top tier. Actually, we are conducting our preseason concurrently with our league matches and I'm satisfied with how things have gone so far."

The coach also did not delve much into Munro's issue but explained that the fans were only interested in finding out what the management was doing to get the squad back on track.

"It is true that some fans came to the chairman expressing their concerns about the team's performance so far. They, however, need to be patient because we haven't found enough time to train," said Salim.

According to Mathare United media officer Peter Wainaina, the players' poor show does not boil down to lack of pay as per some claims.

Wainaina stated, "While we agree that the team had encountered some difficulties in the past in over player salaries, the situation has improved since our sponsors Triple5bet came on board."
