A 29-year-old Kenyan born basketball star was arrested and detained in Australia over the death of his girlfriend.
The police detained Chudier Thowath Pal as they suspected he killed his 30-year-old girlfriend Stephanie Robinson on Saturday morning, January 2.
Before the celebrity's arrest, police had launched a manhunt for him and locked down the streets, alerting residents not to approach the suspect if spotted.
The duo lived in Doubleview, Perth and the body of the deceased was found burning in the couple's house.
When Thowath Pal was arrested, an investigating officer noted in a memo that he was rambling about having "a neutron star for a father."
According to the police, the suspect displayed signs of psychosis by also talking about the "galaxy inside his head."
Psychosis is a condition that affects the way your brain processes information. It causes you to lose touch with reality.
The deceased had posted on Facebook that she was in in a "complicated relationship" since November 2, 2020.
Pal grew up in Kenya before moving to Western Australia where he played in NBL1 teams including the Rockingham Flames and the Mandurah Magic.
He also played for the University of North Carolina Ashville Bulldogs and trained with the Perth Wildcats. Thowath Pal returned to the Flames after playing one season with Mandurah Magic.
The 29-year-old has two children but the decreased was not their mother.
The case will be mentioned on Monday, January 11.
As per the orders issued by a Perth court, law enforcers are to detain the suspect for seven days at a health facility where he is to undergo several mental check-ups.
