The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers on Friday night (January 8) arrested a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) student over the brutal killing of four members of one family and their farmhand in Karura Village in Kiambu County.
Lawrence Warunge, who is the first-born child of the murdered couple, was arrested while putting up at a relative’s place in Kabete, DCI detectives say.
The investigators say they would interrogate Lawrence with the aim of finding out why he remained silent throughout despite his parents, brother and cousin being killed in cold blood on Tuesday night.
“We also want to interrogate the relative who was housing the boy,” said a DCI detective.
The informant said that the university student has “confessed to a number of things, which would be crucial to the investigations”.
Police said Friday that they traced Lawrence Warunge’s phone signal to Mai Mahiu, where the gadget was switched off to date.
It is alleged that clothes won by Warunge were burnt at the scene, Mai Mahiu, hours after the Tuesday fatal attacks, with authorities investigating whether Lawrence took part in his family’s wipe-out.
