President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new Covid-19 containment measures due to the surge in infections In the country over recent past weeks.
In the new raft of measures, the Head of State has suspended political gatherings for 60 days and directed cabinet members to engage through virtual meetings if necessary.
According to the President,if there must be a political meeting it should be held in town halls with limited attendees occupying one-third sitting capacity of the hall.
Religious gatherings however remains unaffaected but the President maintained it must follow the rules governing them in relation to Covid-19 protocols.
The resumption of basic in-person education classes will be in January 2021.
The president also said that all immune-compromised State and Public officers aged above 58 years should work remotely unless they serve in critical sectors.
He extended the nationwide dusk to dawn curfew to January 3, 2021 revising the curfew hours from 11 pm to 10pm
Restaurants, bars, and other public establishments have been ordered to close by 9pm.
Furthermore, the president emphasized that when in operation, all restaurants, bars, eateries, and hotels should comply with Covid-19 protocols.
He mandated County governments with the responsibility of maintaining isolation facilities and mentioned that there will be localized lockdowns in specific counties with an upsurge of Covid-19 cases.
County governments must also focus on enforcing public health through proper structures.
