The United Arab Emirates has suspended the issuance of new visas to visitors from Kenya and a few other countries due to Covid-19 surge.
Other countries that have been affected by the suspension of visa issuance are Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Iran, Libya, Afghanistan, Syria, Iraq, and Turkey.
The Pakistan Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed the suspension of new visa issuance to UAE but clarified that those with already issued visas will not be affected.
The directive from the UAE had not immediately clarified which visa categories would be affected.
Kenya’s daily record of cases has been alarming as the number of recorded Covid-19 infections in a day has increased to 1,500 with fatalities recorded daily. Currently, there are more than 70,500 confirmed cases and more than 1,300 deaths.
The president banned large gatherings and political rallies earlier this month, emphasizing on the observance of Covid-19 protocols.
