Two late goals from Callum Wilson and Joelington gave Newcastle a well needed win to go 10th.
Palace missed the services of their most influential player Wilfried Zaha after he tested positive for coronavirus.
Top scorer Wilson gave the Magpies advantage in the late minutes before Joelington quickly deflected in the second before the 90-minute mark.
Newcastle go up to 10th place with 14 points, one more than 13th placed Crystal Palace.
Speaking to BBC Sports, Crystal Palace forward Jeffrey Schlupp said, "It's very disappointing. It wasn't the best of games but looked to be heading for 0-0. We conceded two sloppy goals.
"Any team with a player of the ability of Wilf (Zaha) will miss him. But there are still 11 players on the pitch with the quality to win a game, We didn't show that today.
"We have missed the fans. Everyone knows what our fans are capable of. We are looking forward to having them back and hopefully they can push us on to some wins."
