Kenyan lawyer Paul Gicheru, who was accused of tampering with witnesses in the ICC case against DP William Ruto and radio presenter Joshua Sang 5 years ago, has surrenderd to the ICC court.
Gicheru turned himself in Dutch authorities on Monday November 2, 2020.
The case against DP Ruto and Presenter Sang was collapsed 4 years ago by the presiding judges who ruled that there was no case to answer.
However, the judge allowed for the possibility of fresh charges in the future. According to them witness intimidation and political interference frustrated the case.
In the 2015 ICC arrest warrant against Gicheru, the lawyer was accused of attempting to bribe 6 prosecution witnesses so that the case could lack testimonies.
Ruto and Sang were charged with the instigation of violence after the disputed 2007 Presidential Elections.
The violence led to the death of 1,200 Kenyans.
The DP's spokesperson emphasized that Gicheru never acted as Ruto’s lawyer during the case. However, he had no comments regarding Gicheru's case.
The ICC made a statement directing the Dutch authorities to hand over the lawyer to the court after the completion of the arrest procedures.
