If President Donald Trump fails to be re-elected, he will be the first President since George Bush Sr to not secure a second term.
Here are some of the US leaders who failed to be re-elected
William Taft- He was the 27th President of U.S. and served between 1909 and 1913.
Taft a close ally of Theodore Roosevelt lost to President Woodrow Wilson.
Herbert Hoover - Served as the US 31st President. He ruled between 1929-1933 and was blamed for the Great Depression brought about by the Stock Market Crash of 1929.
Hoover was trounced in 1932 election by Franklin Roosevelt the first US President to serve more than two terms.
Gerald Ford- He went down the history book as the only person never to be elected as Vice President or President
Ford was appointed the Vice President in 1976 by the then President Richard Nixon.
He would later succeed Nixon as the 38th US President following the latter's resignation due to the watergate scandal.
