In the just concluded Africa Music Magazine Awards, popularly known as Afrimma Awards, Bongo artistes emerged top in the East Africa categories. The event was held virtually due to Covid-19 pandemic.
Bongo star Diamond Platnumz bagged the Best Male East Africa category, beating Kenyan stars Kaligraph Jones and Otile Brown.
Other artists who were nominated in the category were, The Ben from Rwanda, Gildo Kassa from Ethiopia, and other Tanzanian artistes including Harmonize, Ali Kiba, Mbosso and Rayvanny.
Under the Best Female East Africa category, Kenyan artistes nominees were Fena Gitu, Akothee, Tanasha Donna, and Nadia Mukami. Tanzanian artistes were Zuchu, Maua Sama, Rosa Ree while Uganda was represented by Vinka and Sheebah Karungi. Nandy from Tanzania scooped the award in this category.
Diamond Platnumz’s protégé Zuchu scooped the Best Newcomer Artiste of the Year.
Nigeria was also well-represented by Umu Obiligbo who won Best African Group as well as Simi and Rema who won Best Female and Male categories respectively.
Soraia Ramos from Cape Verde won Best Female while Fally Ipupa, a popular Congolese singer, scooped the award for the Best Male Central Africa while Sho Madjozi from South Africa won the Best Female Act as Master KG of the Jerusalema hit won Best Male Act. The hit song also secured Master KG a win for Artiste of the Year.
