Speakers dismiss bid to block parliament in gender law row

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi and his Senate counterpart Ken Lusaka have dismissed the Law Society of Kenya's intention to barricade Parliament building over its failure to enact the two-third gender rule.

""On one hand, LSK President Nelson Havi is in court and on the other hand he is shouting all over the streets in total disregard to court proceedings. The LSK is more respectable than what Havi is Projecting. LSK should be on the side of rule of law and it's President should be patient untill the due process". National Assembly speaker Muturi said

In a letter on Friday, LSK President Nelson Havi said his members alongside with other representatives from United Green Movement will visit parliament to ensure no lawmaker enters.

The letter shared with the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai states that the meeting will be on October 12th at 2:30 PM and seeks to be peaceful and request police for necessary entry facilitation and security for the 20 representatives set to attend.

The developnt comes at the backdrop of an advisory to President Uhuru Kenyatta from the Chief Justice David Maraga advising him to dissolve Parliament failure it's  to enact the two-third gender rule.
