Ethiopian long distance runner and World Olympics 10,000m and 5,000m record holder Kenenisa Bekele has withdrawn from this year's London Marathon.
The two-time 10,000 m Olympic gold medalist withdrew from the marathon after suffering a calf injury.
The runner said, "This race was so important to me. My time in Berlin last year gave me great confidence and motivation and I was looking forward to show that again. I have worked so hard for it."
He picked the injury during his fast training sessions in the last week's of preparation according to a post on his Instagram page.
The much-anticipated duel between Bekele and Kipchoge ends after this latest development.
