Jubilee Party wants Deputy President William Ruto stripped of his deputy party leader position after he convened a meeting at the party headquarters on Thursday.
Addressing the press on Friday, Jubilee Party secretary general Raphael Tuju said they will recommend to the party's National Executive Council ( NEC) that the DP be removed from his position.
According to Tuju, the decision was made by the National Management Committee (NMC), adding that he ceased to be the deputy party leader when he and his allies set up a parallel meeting point dubbed “Jubilee Asili”.
Tuju also banned Ruto from accessing the party headquarters in Pangani. He accused DP Ruto of planning his presidential campaigns at the party headquarters .
“We would like to be absolutely clear, that we serve one President at a time. The DP, a self-declared 2022 presidential candidate, will not be allowed to use the party Headquarters as a centre of operationalisation of his campaigns and for intimidation,” Tuju said.
The DP was also accused of advancing divisive politics, undermining his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta’s agenda to bolster peace.
“We have witnessed with sadness, the very rude and unmitigated defiance in the face of the President’s vision by his Constitutional principal assistant, the Deputy President William Ruto,” Tuju said.
Yesterday, after being holed up in a meeting with 38 MPs and a number of ward reps, the DP was said to have been plotting to take over the party headquarters, "
In a tweet, he downplayed claims of starting a “coup” at the party saying, “These are interesting times indeed! That working from Jubilee HQS where am the duly elected deputy party leader is considered news. Our focus is on efforts that are complementary to achieving our shared aspirations while ensuring that no one is left behind for whatever reason,"
