Mombasa, Kakamega gubernatorial elections set for August 23


The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has set August 23 as the day eight regions across the country will hold elections after voting was suspended due to ballot paper mix-up.

The electoral body said the affected areas include Mombasa and Kakamega where the gubernatorial election was suspended due to discrepancies in the ballot papers.

Other areas include, Kacheliba, Kitui Rural ,Pokot South ,and Rongai in Nakuru where an election will be held to elect member of parliament.

The election for Members of County Assemblies of Nyaki West (North Imenti Constituency), Kwa Njenga in Embakasi South will also be held on August 23, 2022.

“Voters in the electroal area deserve a short period to elect their leaders,” Commissioner Francis Wanderi said.

“it will be cost effective since the same equipment and personnel will be deployed with minimum training”.Commissioner Wanderi added.
