Margaret 'Meg' Whitman has officially embarked on her duty as US envoy to Nairobi.
Ms. Whitman, a business executive who formerly served as CEO of Hewlett Packard (HP), jetted in the country on Monday and was received by the embassy outgoing Chargé d’Affaires Eric Kneedler.
"Welcome to Kenya Ambassador Whitman!” read a tweet accompanied by a photo of Ms.Whitman from the embassy's official handle.
Ms.Whitman was appointed the ambassador to Kenya by US President Joe Biden last December.
Her appointment was confirmed in a unanimous vote by the US Senate as the eighteenth United States Ambassador to Kenya in mid-July.
The 65-year-old business executive succeeds Kyle McCarter.She becomes the second US female envoy to Kenya since Prudence Bushnell who served in the 1990s.
