The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja to contest for the Nairobi governorship seat in the upcoming August 9 General Election.
Sakaja who will be vying on a UDA Party ticket was cleared on Tuesday alongside his deputy James Muchiri in Kasarani after days of speculation about the Senator's academic credentials.
Nairobi County Returning Officer Albert Gogo announced Sakaja's clearance at the Kasarani Sports complex after Sakaja submitted the required documents.
"I hereby certify that Johnson Arthur Sakaja has been validly registered as a potential county governor in the elections to be held in August 9," he said.
Speaking moments after receiving his nomination certificate, Sakaja pledged to foster quality service in the county calling on voters to shun voting on tribal lines instead support candidates who have the county's agenda at heart.
“Nairobi residents should avoid looking at tribe when voting. Let’s vote for leaders who have the interest of Nairobi at heart,” Sakaja said as he assured his supporters that he would clinch the seat.
"Our march is unstoppable, our faith unshakeable and our victory is inevitable. We must make Nairobi work… We must restore our city back to its former glory by offering our people, order, dignity, hope and opportunity for all," he said.
