Johnson Sakaja cleared to vie for Nairobi governor seat

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)has dismissed the complaint challenging Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja's academic qualifications.

The tribunal argued that  IEBC has no investigative machinery to investigate validity of academic credentials.

"Though there are serious aspersions as to the validity of his documents but Sakaja has not been charged in a court of law over allegations of engaging in an offense of having falsified documents," the committee said  adding that the  the allegations made to the IEBC over Sakaja's degree falls for prosecution by the DPP.

"The burden of proof shifted to IEBC to show that he degree certificate from team university is fake," the committee ruled.

While reacting to the ruling, Sakaja said he was happy with the verdict, and would now hit the campaign trail

"Our faith and march towards victory remains unshakable. We will win this and shame the deep state," he said.
