Greek firm Inform Lykos to print ballot papers

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has tapped on Greek firm Inform Lykos to print to print ballot papers for the August 9 polls.

IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan confirmed the development saying that the company based in Athens with a backup site in Romania was awarded the tender worth Sh3 billion.

Marjan announcement comes at the back drop of concerns about the printing of the ballot papers and it's security with Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga through his lawyer Paul Mwangi challenging the electoral body to provide information on the ballot papers' design, security features as well as transport and storage logistics plan, and the statutory results.

"We request information on when the commission intends to travel to the printing press with representatives of the political parties to inspect the printing of ballot papers, statutory forms and other election materials," the letter by Mwangi read.

IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati promised to have travel plans to visit the firm soon.

"Dates will be given when the team is going. Unfortunately, we don't have a budget to finance the stakeholders so we shall ask you to look into your kitty," he said.

Chebukati who also doubles up as presidential Returning Officer announced that the ballot paper printing began on Sunday.

IEBC said the process commenced with printing of 120 million ballot papers, considering the little and limited time left before the polls.

The firm is however expected to deliver over 200 million papers.
