President Uhuru suspends Judge Said Chitembwe

President Uhuru Kenyatta has suspended High Court judge Said Juma Chitembwe to allow for investigations against him on allegations of gross misconduct. 

The Head of State has also appointed a 7-member tribunal upon receiving a petition by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) which recommended that the judge be probed.

The tribunal will be chaired by Court of Appeal Judge Lady Justice Mumbi Ngugi.

Other member appointed to the tribunal include Senior Counsel Dr. Fred N. OjiamboLady Justice Abida Ali AroniJustice Nzioki wa Makau, Mr. James Ochieng’ OduolLt. Gen. (Rtd.) Jackson W. Ndung’u and Dr. Lydia Nzomo.

Senior Counsel Kiragu Kimani will be the lead counsel at the tribunal and will be  assisted by Joseph Gitonga Riungu and Edward Omotii Nyang’au while Mr Jasper M. Mbiuki and Sarah Yamo will serve as the joint secretaries for the tribunal.

“The Head of State and Government notes that the Petition contains grave allegations regarding the conduct of the Judge and further notes that allegations of gross misconduct on the part of a judge erode the faith of Kenyans in the fair administration of justice,” reads a statement from Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

JSC had on May 4th determined that petitions filed for Justice Said Chitembwe's removal from office on the grounds of gross misconduct presented adequate grounds for his removal.

The petition for removal of Justice Chitembwe were filed by four petitions who include former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, Francis Wambua, Imgrad Geige and David Leboo Ole Kilusu.
