Kenyan athlete David Rudisha is the latest high profile personality to join the growing list of celebrities who have ventured into elective politics.
The seasoned athlete has declared his bid for the Kilgoris Parliamentary seat.
According to documents seen by LATEST, Rudisha has been cleared by the Independent, Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for the seat as an independent candidate.
“Reference is made to the subject matter and your letter dated 29 April 2022 on the intention to contest election as Member of National Assembly, Kilgoris Constituency,” IEBC said in a letter.
The two-time Olympic champion and world record holder in the 800 meters will face off with at least seven other candidates for the seat who include former Minister Mr Julius Sunkuli, former National Environment Management Authority (Nema) board chairperson Mr John Konchellah, and former Rift Valley Education Director Mr John Ololtua.
Rudisha who has been down with a knee injury and missed both the 2019 World Championships and 2020 Olympic Games will be seeking to succeed MP Gideon Konchellah who will be contesting for the Narok Senatorial seat.
