“I am conducting investigation into an alleged …stealing by servant. I have reasons to believe that you, Benson Mutura is connected to the offence or has information that may assist in the investigations,” reads summons by DCI.
Speaking moments after his arrest, Mutura said he was shocked by the action of the police terming it as intimidation and one that contravenes the assembly's power and privileges act.
"I do my work diligently and in a transparent manner and am not afraid of summons, let them follow the law,” he said amid uproar from a section of MCAs' who linked the arrest to the speaker's recent move to join DP Ruto's UDA party.
Mutura further alleged that his arrest comes just weeks after he questioned the legality of extending the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) for further six months.
According to Mutura who once acted as the county governor following Mike Sonko's ouster, NMS is committing an illegality which has not been sanctioned by the Assembly.
“These things are emerging after i called out NMS for not following the law, the assembly will not cleanse what is unlawful,” he added.
