Retired President Mwai Kibaki laid to rest in Nyeri

Kenya's third President Mwai Kibaki has been laid to rest at his home in Munyange home in Othaya Constituency, Nyeri County.

The burial event which was private was  attended by the family and a few guests and included an elaborate military ceremony that saw the former Head of State accorded a 19-gun salute.

Kibaki’s body was buried next to that of his wife Mama Lucy Kibaki who died 6 years ago.

The Kenya Airforce also accorded him a fly past after which they observed a 2-minute silence in his honour.

Thousands of Kenyans turned up for  the burial ceremony which was held at the Othaya Approved School grounds.

The burial ceremony was presided over by Nyeri Catholic Archbishop Anthony Muheria. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta,Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga were among the top dignitaries who attended the burial.
