Reprieve for Nandi Hills MP Keter as UDA blocked from submitting nominee to IEBC

The United Democratic Alliance Party (UDA) has been barred by the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal from submitting the name of its nominee for the Nandi Hills parliamentary seat.

This is after incumbent MP Alfred Keter  challenged the decision by the party to nullify his nomination win after Tuesday's primaries.

The party had awarded the certificate to Bernard Kitur after the Electoral and Disputes Resolution Committee invalidated Keter's win.

The tribunal has asked respondents to file their responses to the application as well as to the complainant on or before the close of the business on Tuesday, April 26.

The matter will be heard on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 9 am.

Keter was declared the winner of the primaries held on Tuesday after he got 10,363 votes against his closest rival Bernard Kitur who garnered  7,468 votes.

Kitur, however, moved to the party's dispute committee where he appealed against Keter's win citing numerous anomalies during the nomination.

The committee allowed his petition ruling that the nominations exercise was not free and fair.

In it's ruling the Committee made up of  Collins Kiprono, Mary Mungai and Adrian Kamotho Njenga ruled that the exercise was marred by insufficient ballot papers in some polling stations which denied a majority of residents a right to participate in the exercise.
