MC Jessy drops out South Imenti MP race

Popular comedian Jasper Muthomi, better known as MC Jessy, has dropped his South Imenti parliamentary bid.

MC Jessy dropped out of the race in and threw his weight behind Mwiti Kathaara, who will now fly the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket in the August 9 General Election.

This will be Kathaara second stab at the seat after he lost the 2017 Jubilee Party nominations to Shadrack Mwiti.

Mwiti would lose the election to the incumbent Kathuri Murungi, who contested as an independent candidate.

Kathaara is now seeking to succeed Murungi who will be running for the Senatorial seat on the UDA ticket.

While confirming MC Jessy’s exit from the contest, Deputy President William Ruto said the comedian would take up duties within his presidential campaign secretariat.

"MC Jessy will join the presidential campaign team after postponing his parliamentary bid in favour of Mwiti Kathaara for the South Imenti Seat,” said Ruto.
