Homa Bay Woman Representative Gladys Wanga will now fly the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket in the county’s gubernatorial race at the upcoming August elections.
Confirming the development, ODM leader Raila Odinga said seven aspirants who were seeking the party ticket had dropped their bids and resolved to back Wanga’s candidature.
At the same time, Raila said the leaders further settled on former Kasipul Member of Parliament Oyugi Magwanga as Wanga's running mate.
“Seven gubernatorial contestants were meeting here and had extensive consultations and they’ve all agreed to step down and back Gladys Wanga as the party candidate in the Homa Bay County gubernatorial race. In the same spirit, they’ve also nominated Oyugi Magwanga as her running mate.”
Odinga further announced that the party had since embraced the decision by the aspirants and issued Wanga with the certificate.
The Azimio La Umoja Presidential candidate was flanked by several leaders from ODM and Homa Bay Governor Cyrian Awiti who is serving his second and final term as the county boss.
