Marjan Hussein sworn in as IEBC CEO

Marjan Hussein Marjan has been sworn in as the Chief Executive Officer of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Marjan was sworn in at the Supreme Court buildings on Wednesday in an event presided over by Chief Justice Martha Koome.

Speaking moments after his swearing-in, Marjan promised to preside over free and fair elections.

"We are in the middle of preparing for the elections, the commission is committing to conducting a free and fair election," he said.

His swearing-in comes a week after he was appointed as the CEO with the Commission's Chairman Wafula Chebukati saying he was the most suitable among the other four candidates who had been shorlisted.

Marjan has held the post in an acting capacity since 2018, when the former CEO Ezra Chiloba was fired over gross misconduct .
