Senator Beth Mugo's husband is dead

Former Ambassador Nicholas Mugo, the husband to nominated Senator Beth Mugo, is dead.

In a statement to newsrooms, Senator Mugo said her husband succumbed to a long illness at the Nairobi Hospital on Thursday. He was aged 86.

“With profound sadness and sorrow, I wish to announce the death of my husband, Amb. Nicholas Mugo, that happened early this morning at the Nairobi Hospital after a long illness,” she said in a statement.

Amb. Nicholas Mugo was among a beneficiary of the scholarship program for further studies in the United States that was initiated by the late  Tom Mboya and the late Dr. Julius Kiano in collaboration with the late US President John F. Kennedy in the 1950s.

“On attainment of Kenya’s independence, Amb. Mugo was recruited to join the East African Community while still in the United States. He was among the first Kenya Africans who came back to the country to take up the responsibilities of serving the nation,” added the statement.

During his stint as a diplomat,   he served as Kenya’s Ambassador to France, Ethiopia, the Vatican and Yugoslavia.

Amb. Mugo, who for a long time served as a church Elder at P. C. E. A. St Andrews Church, will be laid to rest Friday, February 4, 2022 in a private ceremony.
